Here’s the cover for my new novel coming out in April:
And here’s what will appear on the back cover:
June 1944: As World War II rages, the people of Eastern Europe are hopelessly trapped between two formidable forces: Hitler’s Germany and Stalin’s Soviet Union. In their midst, a band of heroes works to defend against the inevitable Communist takeover.
After narrowly escaping her Nazi captors, French Resistance worker Genevieve Olivier has fled to Allied territory with the help of American Lieutenant Peter Eddy. Their connection is undeniable, forged in the crucible of danger. But despite their blossoming feelings for each other, they must both finish the work they began . . .
In the safety of England, Genevieve hopes to find purpose as a nurse—all the while unaware that the Gestapo still seeks the woman who slipped through their grasp. When she is called upon to resume a life of danger as a French spy, will her desire to prove herself be her downfall?
Recruited by an elite special-ops team intent on thwarting the Nazis, Peter finds himself engaged in a personal battle as well—there is a traitor among his comrades. Deep in the Carpathian Mountains, Peter combats an unknown foe. The stakes are high as he fights to save the lives of his teammates.
They are miles apart, yet as Genevieve and Peter fight for their own survival, they find a common well of strength in their faith—and their determination to be reunited.
It’s always exciting to get a new cover, and I like this one. What do you think? If you were browsing in a bookstore, would you pick the book up to learn more?
I think that’s a BAR, a Browning Automatic Rifle, in the man’s hands. I’m hoping a few readers who know more about firearms than I do can confirm or correct me. Also, I’m doing some updates to the website, so if you notice anything that’s not formatted correctly, I’d love a quick message telling me to fix it. Thanks!
Like! Like! Like! So excited to be able to read your new novel. Can’t wait to tell all my friends too! Several have been asking about it.

Thanks Delrae! And thank you so much for telling your friends–word of mouth is so key in book sales!

I like it. My husband might know about the rifle. I’ll ask him when he has a minute.

Hubby thinks it’s a BAR, too.

Thank you for asking him, Rebecca. If your hubby and my Weapons of WWII reference book both says it’s a BAR, I’ll feel a little more confident if someone asks me what type of weapon it is.
Now if I could get my main character to trade in his M1 for a BAR . . .

Hi, You got me at “World War II Novel” But the back reeled me in. I have an Aunt who grew up in France, and living in Calais when the Germans took over the country. I have not heard her tell the stories, but I believe she helped the Resistance for a while. Can’t wait to read it.
I sent your blog to a Shooting Instructor I know and he was pretty sure it was a Browning Auto. We them Googled “Browning Automatic Rifle” and compared numerous pictures to an enlargement of your cover, and we are both pretty sure it’s a Browning. Without seeing the whole rifle it is a little difficult. He is forwarding your blog to a friend of his who might be more definite. I’ll let you know.

Amanda,
My cousin Jeff has his own costume/military theatrical business, so he would know, so I’ll post this for him to see.
Toodles,
Teri
By the way, is this a sequel to Espionage?
LikeLike
Thanks, Teri! It sounds like your cousin has a really cool business. And yes, it is a sequel to Espionage, but you don’t have to read Espionage to understand it. Reading Sworn Enemy first might reveal a few plot spoilers for Espionage, but they can both be read as stand-alone novels.

Nice cover. I would definitely be intrigued enough to pick it up and browse in the book store. And the back cover text is a great hook.

Thanks, Char! I can’t take credit for the cover or the text, but I think my publisher did a good job.

Agreed. I think it goes well with your last one too with the colors.

I’m glad you mentioned the colors–I think that’s one of the reasons I like it. Reminds me a little of the Saints and Soldiers movies, and since we have about the same target market, that could be a great move by the cover designer. If anyone is curious, here are links to the movies: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0373283/?ref_=sr_2 and http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2082415/?ref_=sr_1

Yeah. Your cover does go good with those movies.

Thank you so much, Kelly! I’m trying to read the general fiction and the mystery/suspense categories. I’ve read one…have nine to go. Guess I’d better get moving on my Whitney reading. Which categories are you reading?

Great cover! Sounds intriguing too. I’d maybe have your name in a slightly larger font, if it’s not too late.

Thanks, Tanya! I think the book has gone to press already, so the font will have to stay the same size (I’m just happy they let me tweak a few things in the blurb).

It is kind of funny you brought up ‘Saints & Soldiers’ as I had similar thoughts when I saw it. Similar coloration & just seeing the back of someone (although for S&S you see all of their back instead of the waist down). Like you said, it should appeal to a similar audience. So excited to read the final version.
