Today I’ve got another children’s picture book to review. (Can you tell we read a lot of stories at my house?) This one was the go-to story for my toddler at naptime and bedtime for at least a week.

My Review:
I liked that this book teaches young children about the alphabet, and about people from the Bible. The illustrations are colorful and skillfully drawn, and the accompanying text is uplifting and well-written.
My favorite part about the book is you can read it in two ways. If you’re in a hurry, or have a child with a short attention span, you can just read the big print on each page: A is for Adam, B is for Baptism, etc. If you have more time, you can go more in-depth and read the accompanying paragraph.
One thing I wasn’t a fan of is some of the inclusions in the pictures. The illustrator drew items that start with the page’s letter, and in a way that was fun. But the historical purist in me cringed to see John the Baptist with a bear inner tube around his waist and Elvis watching Elijah perform one of his miracles. But other readers might find those items fun and whimsical, and it certainly didn’t bother my children.

Heidi Poelman is the author of A is for Abinadi: An Alphabet Book of Scripture Heroes, A Mother’s Greatest Gift, and The Two-Minute Marriage Project: Simple Secrets for Staying in Love. Heidi received her degrees in communication from Brigham Young University (BA) and Wake Forest University (MA). When she’s not writing, cooking, cleaning, or carpooling, Heidi loves playing outdoors with her family, going out for date night, and reading bedtime stories. She lives in Utah with her husband and three children.
About the Illustrator:
Maggie Coburn loves drawing and storytelling. She has her BA in anthropology from UC Santa Cruz (where she discovered the amazing art form that is scientific illustration), and her MFA in traditional illustration from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. She currently lives and works in California, with her husband, daughter, and loyal canine.
