I’m new to the works of A. L. Sowards. Where should I start?
I recommend starting with my most recent release in a time period you are interested in.
For fans of WWII fiction, the Falcon Point historical series is the best place to start. For fans of medieval fiction, I recommend starting with After the Crescent Strike in the Balkan Legends Series.
If you would rather start with a stand-alone novel, I recommend A Waltz with Traitors or Before the Fortress Falls.
More into mysteries? Try Bridge of Betrayal or The Redgrave Murders.
Want a tear-jerker? I consider Codes of Courage, Roads of Resistance, and Before the Fortress Falls the most likely to make readers cry.
What is Borealis Historical?
Borealis Historical is the publishing imprint created to make the works of A. L. Sowards available to more readers in more formats. The name gives a nod to the historical fiction genre and to the Northern Lights of Sowards’s Alaskan home.
Borealis Historical is not accepting unsolicited manuscripts at this time.
Do any of your books come with trigger warnings?
Content information for each of my books, including any trigger warnings, is included on the content page of my website.
What if a book I ordered is defective?
In general, if you purchase a book that is damaged or that was not printed correctly, you will need to return the book to the store where you purchased it. This is true for brick and mortar stores and for online retailers.
Books published by Borealis Historical (such as the hardcover edition of After the Crescent Strike) are print-on-demand books, which means each book is manufactured when it is ordered. Print-on-demand (POD) books can sometimes be printed incorrectly. If that is the case for your book (for example, if the book is too tall, too wide, or too short by more than 1/16th of an inch, if ink is missing on any of the pages, or if pages are missing or out-of-order), then the printer should replace your book with a new properly printed copy. If you purchased the book through a retailer (Amazon, for example), then please work with that retailer and specify that the book had a printing defect. If you purchased a book directly from Ingram, you can report the problem here.
Why do some of your titles have more than one cover?
Sometimes rights to an image used in a cover are limited to a specified time period or an allocated number of copies sold. When the rights expire, a new cover is needed.
Likewise, some of my titles have editions published by multiple publishers, and in that case, each publisher designs its own cover.
The story inside will be the same, with the possible correction of typos and other minor word tweaks in later editions.
